How it all started. Taking a Walk Down Memory Lane.

Hi, we are Glen & Shannon Mackenzie and together we are Riviera Reflections Weddings & Events, we are in Cancun/Riviera Maya. We have been planning weddings for just over 9 years now, 5 of them in Alberta Canada, where we came from. When we decided Mexico was where we wanted to continue to make couples happy, we decided to make it happen.

We had always planned to move from our home country of Canada, in fact, we have lived in Hawaii, North Carolina, and the Dominican Republic. It wasn’t until we hit our 40’s that we knew we absolutely needed to pick a Country and settle. We have now been in Cancun/Riviera Maya for the past 3 and a half years. The move to Mexico was not initially in the cards for us, however, after one visit to Puerto Morelos (situated right in the middle of Cancun and Playa del Carmen), we knew this was where we had always longed to be. Puerto Morelos is a quiet sleepy little fishing town right off the main highway. We fell in love instantly. The people are amazing, the ocean is just a 5-minute drive from our house, we have made the best of friends and we feel like we are all family and finally home.

We have had no regrets, apart from wishing we had made the move sooner. If we could give anyone any advice on moving to Mexico it would be to do it and to not wait. Of course, it is a completely different lifestyle than you most likely have. If you are still on the fence about such a move, we would tell you not to stay in an all-inclusive resort. The reason is that you will never experience real day-to-day life and that can be a shock to the system if you are ill-prepared. You need to go grocery shopping, pay bills, do some banking, and learn to communicate with the locals, in their native language, Spanish; it will be a little different than what you call home now.

Embrace everything that Mexico has to offer and be open to a new way of living. Nothing feels better than the ocean breeze and sun on your face. There is nothing like MEXICO!!!
